The Tragic Death of Wyatt Eaves-Nibert
Wyatt Eaves-Nibert, a 10-year-old boy from West Virginia, tragically lost his life following his disappearance during a hunting trip with his grandfather. According to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Wyatt was reported missing on a Saturday morning in Point Pleasant. The authorities initially responded to an ATV accident involving Wyatt’s grandfather. The accident occurred after the boy had gone missing. Wyatt’s body was found the next day with a single gunshot wound. The police did not reveal further updates on the incident or the investigation details. It remains unclear how the boy died.
The Hunting Trip
Wyatt and his grandfather had gone squirrel hunting on Saturday morning, authorities said, when they received a call from the grandfather saying he had been in an ATV accident and needed help. When police arrived, the man said he had been using the ATV to try to find his grandson, who had gone missing about an hour before. Wyatt was carrying a .22 caliber rifle, according to police. Adrienne Nibert, Wyatt's mother, told WCHS-TV that her son went squirrel hunting with his grandfather. They were eating lunch when the boy said he was going to walk and look for squirrels. When the grandfather finished eating, he called out for Wyatt but never found him.
The Search
A search operation that extended well into the evening was launched to find the young boy, with hundreds of first responders and volunteers involved. Police also spread the message through social media, sharing a picture of the juvenile and describing his appearance and clothes. Wyatt’s mother, Adrienne Nibert, and her family searched all night Saturday into Sunday, along with hundreds of volunteers and first responders. The child’s body was found around 7 a.m. Sunday.
